Title: Colour or Color
Kiger - April 15, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
This is a big peeve of mine..most Americans spell colour without the u (color) I find the u to be more correct.
I constantly get points off my work in school because of the u and misspelling it
I spell Colour with a u, do you?

Kiger, come to Britain! We get marked down for forgetting the 'u'. (Not that I do... I'm just great.) :D

Both! I never can remember, having lived in both the UK and America. It annoys my teachers so much. That, and not being able to draw the £ sign...

Being taught to spell it "color" since I was small, color.

Apparently, Colour is the correct way, but I don't know about anyone else, I say it color, and spell it color. Say 'you' and then transfer that sound into color... doesn't sound right. But that's just me.

In fourms and non-graded assignments, use the U, in graded work, I don't.

The spelling of it is mostly determined by where you live than rather than how you think it should be spelled. In the United States, it's spelled color because lexicographer (dictionary author) Noah Webster was very patriotic and "Americanized" many British English words, such as color. However, in Britain and most Commonwealth countries it is spelled colour.

I'm more used to 'color'. They say that the Euopeans spell it 'colour', but, I don't know. I say 'color', I was brought up spelling it that way... :shifty:

I'm Hungarian so I learn English in a more British way...So I spell it colour
Pavocristantus - February 4, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
I'm British so i spell it colour. I'd preffer it to be spelt color in british english, it makes more sense as that's how it sounds, but i don't because it's wrong.
