Hey guys, I've been away for quite a bit, but I have a perfectly reasonable excuse. World of Warcraft.
Yes friends, it's the gaming sensation that's sweeping the nation. To those that don't know about it (all five of you), World of Warcraft pits you and thousands of other players against everything the world of Azeroth can throw at you. When creating your character you are given the choice between one of eight (ten with the expansion) races split into the Horde and Alliance.
The Alliance (falsely considered to be the "good-guys") are comprised of the:
HumansDwarfsGnomesNight Elves*
DraeneiAnd the Horde (the real good-guys):
OrcTrollTaurenUndead*
Blood Elves*Expansion Exclusive
You can be one of nine character classes each with it's own ups and downs.
Warrior: The basic class. All races can be warrior except Blood Elves. These guys are on the front lines taking all the damage.
Paladins: Available to Humans, Dwarves and Blood Elves. These are basically weaker warriors that can heal and buff their party.
Hunter: All races except Humans, Gnomes and Undead can be hunters. These guys are ranged attackers that use bows, guns and crossbows. Think Legolas but with a pet.
Shamans: Available to Draenei, Orcs, Trolls and Tauren. These are one of the few Jack-of-All-Trades classes. They are casters, healers and can be emergency tanks. Their specialty is putting down totems to damage enemies and buff their party.
Rogues: Ninjas. YA RLY. They are one with the shadow. They can turn semi-invisible and take out guys in a flash. They are also incredibly annoying to fight since they have so many stunning abilities. Available to everyone except Tauren and Draenei (very hard to tip-toe with hooves).
Druids: Exclusive to Night Elves and Tauren. They can turn into animals. SRSLY. Like the Shamans, they can be tanks in bear form, rogues in cat form, and casters or healers in normal form. They also have a whole slew of other forms including Aquatic (fast swimming and ability to breathe under water), Travel (increased running speed), and Flight (self-explanatory).
Mages: Described as Glass Cannons. They unload massive amounts of damage with Fireballs and Ice Bolts but are incredibly weak in clsoe combat. Thankfully they can just turn their enemies into sheep and run :) Humans, Gnomes, Draenei, Trolls, Undead and Blood Elves can be mages.
Priests: Healers. Only Gnomes, Orcs and Tauren can't be priests. These guys are very popular with groups because of the lack of players who want to be healers.
Warlock: Think Mage crossed with Hunter. All the wonderfulness of spells with a pet. Mainly, warlocks use Damage-Over-Time spells in combination with other nasty spells to slowly take down the enemy while letting their pet take most of the damage. Not as free with pet choice as Hunters. Humans, Gnomes, Orcs, Undead, and Blood Elves can be can take up the demonic path of a Warlock.
The expansion, The Burning Crusade, takes the level-cap from 60 to 70 and introduces the broken world of Outland. In this terrible waste land players will face new, unseen horrors in the lost Orc homeworld. Players will meet the valiant Draenei, and the magic-craving Blood Elves.
In the upcoming expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, the level cap is again raised from 70 to 80 and the new continent of Northrend is introduced. gather your friends and fight through all-new lands to take down the Lich King.
For anyone that doesn't play I hope this has inspired you to try the free trial (get referral from me and I get a month free!) and join us. If you already play, what Race/Class/Realm due you play with.
Currently I'm working on a few different alts on the Quel'Dorei server:
Zuul - 28 Draenei Mage
Wakataka - 14 Troll Hunter
Elevator - 11 Night Elf Druid
Saviourself - 13 Draenei Paladin
Heh, I sound like one of those guys from a commercial. You don't understand how hard it is to write something that long at three in the morning. And I already had to rewrite it...I'm copying this just in case I post it on any other boards.
Seriously, it's a good game, try'n'buy it. It's literally fun for the whole family (just ask my mom -_-)
Oh and if anyone has any tips, I'm having a lot of trouble sticking to one character and continuously using him. I get to about level 12 and I'll get interested in a different class and forget about my old character...
