Title: Too many downloads
micandra - March 3, 2008 03:36 PM (GMT)
I downloaded a few new items and placed them in my download folder. When I went to play, major glitches. The screen that has the remotelike thing and lists the XP you have installed, some of the XP's where whited out. It ask if I wanted to learn how to play AA, ES, & EA, all of which I have had for a while. In freeform, the map preveiw was whited out. Opening a map, it was the wrong bionome and large squares where blacked out. It would load saved games. The preview was blank and it said the format was unreadable. I played the night before with no problems. I took the new downloads out and restart. Glitches gone. I added the downloads back untill the glitches started again. I finally figured out I had too many downloads. I took out the ones I don't use and no more problems. But I know of some projects that are WIP that I want.

Hmmm... Are you sure that it's a matter of too many downloads and not a particular one that was causing the glitches? I suppose it is possible, though, that your computer simply couldn't handle it... About how many downloads would you say that you have?

I have quite a lot of downloads in mine, and while it does affect my loading times, I've not had any stability problems. Nor can I think of a reason why the game would get glitches if you have lots of downloads, unless the downloads are conflicting with each other. It sounds more like you just picked up one download that's a bit buggy.

This sounds more like you downloaded a faulty download.
I have umpty-billion downloads in my game and everything runs perfectly smoothly.

Same here. XD
But then my computer is far more... um, powerful than the average ZT2 player's... >_>

It is actually having too many DLs. Trust me, i have had the same problem. I solved it by putting some of the .z2f files into one, and putting them in the DLs folder, instead of the main game. I beleive ZT2 will only read so many files per folder, so it messes up when there are too many.

Do you have any idea what that limit is? I have over 160 .z2f files in my directory and no problems.

I know there's a way to combine downloads. but I don't know how and I can't find the tut I didn't understand.

If you have winrar or winzip all you have to do is open the two z2f's you want to combine, you'll see a bunch of folders called entities, lang etc in both files, just copy all the files in one z2f and paste them in the other, and click Yes when it asks you to overwrite contents (because you wont really be overwriting anyway, it just notices there are say two entities folders - they will contain different things).

I guess I never had the too many downloads problem because I rarely put downloads in my main folder, huh? 0_o I didn't realize there was a limit.

I currently have 198 .z2fs in my main ZT2 folder - that is relatively close to the limit, but i do not remember the exact limit. I think it is 200 - so try to stay below that :)
