Title: Shen's Zoos

ShenTirag - February 2, 2008 03:41 PM (GMT)
Hello! I just realised I didn't have a S&T topic here, and this has been remedied! :)

I've been working on a new zoo (when I really should be writing essays) so here are some pics! :)

At the entrance of the zoo ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...ls/enlarged.jpg ), you can see that it isn't really finished yet :) the path branches three ways ahead of you, but only the right hand path ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S.../enlarged-1.jpg ) seems to lead anywhere right now. The path weaves between two forrested exhibits, and as you turn around you can look down the hill you just walked up to see the seating area below ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S.../enlarged-2.jpg ). Ahead and to your left, you can see a viewing area ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S.../enlarged-3.jpg ) reflecting the forrested landscape. Peering over the fence you can see into the wolf enclosure ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S.../enlarged-4.jpg ), holding a small pack of grey wolves. The pack is always on the move and seem to enjoy roaming through the wildflowers ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S.../enlarged-5.jpg ). It is just a tiny bit spooky as one looks you directly in the eyes as it grooms itself! ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S.../enlarged-6.jpg ).

Back on the main path, through the trunk of a mighty tree you can see further exhibits, including a large tank ( http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S.../enlarged-7.jpg ). Just to the right is the viewing area for the second boreal forest exhibit, this one containing grizzly bears ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S.../enlarged-8.jpg ). They seem to enjoy wading through the artificial river in their home, filled with rainbow trout and salmon ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S.../enlarged-9.jpg ). Plexiglass windows allow the bears to get right up close without fear of danger! ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-10.jpg )

Turning back to the main path and walking through the split tree trunk ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-11.jpg ), you prepare to walk down the hill and towards the rest of the zoo, but the rest will have to wait until next time :)

Great zoo. Amd how did you get land in a tank

Steenbok28 - February 3, 2008 12:32 PM (GMT)
I'm impressed! I'm currently trying to make a zoo that uses elevations, but it gets so difficult, I find...You've definitely pulled it off.

Thank you everyone, here are some more pictures ^_^

Down by the tank, you peer into the wintry waters. Amazed at all you can see, you immediately identify the narwhals and walruses that live in this enclosure. ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-12.jpg ) Suddenly a gorgeous ringed seal swoops past, displaying her stunning fur. ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-13.jpg ) The larger male joins her, and they both pull fish from a rocky crevice. ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-14.jpg ) It seems suprising that all these mammals can live together in harmony, but with enough fish and ice floes to perch on, they all seem very content! Walbert, the large male walrus, flaps his flippers gleefully as a burst of powdered snow sends an icy chill acros s the water. ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-15.jpg ) All the animals are keen hunters, and the male narwhal, November, won't stay still long enough to get a good picture! ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-16.jpg )

Moving round back to the main path, you can see the way ahead looks more forested. ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-17.jpg ) A restaurant is guarded by two bear topiaries, reminding you of the grizzlies we saw earlier. ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-18.jpg ) Opposite the restaurant is another enclosure ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-19.jpg ), this one containing a small flock of ibex ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-20.jpg ). They happily browse through the eidelwiess and lick the salt lick ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-21.jpg ), stocking themselves up on vital nutrients that keep their coats very shiny. Suddenly, one of the males starts towards the other and races behind a spruce ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-22.jpg )! A clash of horns later, hidden by the foliage, and one emerges victorious, leaving the other to sulk in the shade. ( http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc222/S...enlarged-23.jpg )

More of our journey next time :)
