Sicilian Gorilla - January 31, 2008 11:37 PM (GMT)
So does anyone work with horses, owns them, ride them, etc.

I ride hunter/jumper on a bay pinto mare named Dixie and oh my god! she is a fiesty little girl! She's so fast and has a giant jump and spooks eaisly but she's a sweetheart.
I want to learn barrel racing but out in NC 99% of the stables are English diciplined and I've yet to see the 1% Western.

Oooh, I ride! Been riding since I was 3! I learnt on a 16 hand Hanoverian/Thoroughbred cross. Not your typical ride for a 3 year old...
We have 2 horses, an ex-racehorse called Percy (Persian Boy was his racing name) who has a bad knee, so only gets light work like hacks and the like. We recently got a 17 hand German breed (Can't think for the life of me what he is) who is a big baby, called Schnapps. He's still being taught how to be ridden, so I don't ride him as much. I also ride one of my Auntie's horses, a scruffy piebald cob called Duke! He is my baby, no-one else wants to ride him! :ohnoes:

I had a lesson tonight but it was cancelled half-way through cause of the weather, it was windy and raining lightly but there was the threat of a tornado, incase your wondering, a big outbreak of tornados was just right next to our state (tennesse) and it's been moved to sunday. Thank god the storm had broken up to just rain when it reached us. I feel so bad for the poor people who were effected by the storms though.
It was weird though, when i was riding, the wind was so strong you couldn't hear anything but dixie acted normal.

hey has anyone ever done ground work or lunging? im doing both with helen but im too sad to do it well be cause i just found out shes....

FOR SALE!!! :(
i love her soooo much..
but its so cool you have 2 horses of your own

i always think of racing names

right now a gelding/ stallin would be- Jets tream soaker (no clue why)

and a mare- Silent promise of secret promise( i cant chooose which!)

I do a lot of ground work - For Percy it helps keep his bad leg supple without riding him, and it's a vital part of Schnapps' training.

zebralover - February 9, 2008 02:31 PM (GMT)
i actually like ground work curz control is soooooo good at it you dont even have to put a lead rope or halter on him! he just does every thing you do....1 time i was ground traning him an i grabbed a water bottle of mine when i started to drink he mimmicked me! it was so funny...hahahah!

oh and i put the race horse name wrong its -
Jet Stream Soaker- for a gelding or stallion.

your so lucky Steenbok, you own your own horses and see them everyday!
I love draft horses, if i ever get a horse it would be a blue roan sabino clydesdale mare that I'd name Lynette.

badisbadis101 - February 14, 2008 09:34 PM (GMT)
i can kinda ride - but we are purchasing property, which we will probably put a horse or two on, and i get to have a big koi pond as i have always wanted, so i am double happy - Horses and fish :D

my sister is obsessed with them (horses), and i think they are pretty cool B)

Silver Wolf - February 14, 2008 10:52 PM (GMT)
You are all so lucky!
I have always loved horses and I try to be around them as much as I can (helping out before shows, riding with friends, etc.). Unfortunately, I live in a highly populated area of NC so there aren't many stables around. I would love to take riding lessons, but I cannot afford to pay for them myself. :( Does anybody have any advice about volunteering in exchange for lessons or something like that? It would be very much appreciated! :D

I love all horses, but my favorites are Friesians, Gypsy Vanners, Mustangs, Clydesdales, Andalucians, and Quarter Horses. I would probably ride Western and do reining and barrel racing.

Hey all! I thought you might appreciate a pic of me and Schnapps, as that'd describe him better than I ever could, plus I'm so happy I finally got him over a jump without mishap and got a picture of it!!! *is double happy*

Me and Schnapps!

Whatcha think? He's beautiful isnt he? And jumps like a stag when he wants to...
