Title: Otter Lord's Scenery Entry
Description: vs. badisbadis101

Alright so I was behind a bit because I realised that the contest had started on Thursday (didn't get the Memo) but it didn't really matter because I've been sick from the 16th to the 20th. Fortunately, after three new relief medicine and 7 antibiotic pills I'm back and mobile once again. :P

Well for my alpine entry I wanted something that was just related to the biome Alpine itself and not something that looks like it only fits with animals from the Switz alps or the Himalayas or the Andes, etc. Well after some comtemplating and some hard work mixed in with homework, I've modelled and half-way coded an invention called the Alpine Geological Model for your alpine amusement. Here's one picture: Alpine Geological Model

It features a visual model with information about the geography of the Alpine Biome. I've coded it so guests will look at it and get amusement from it and it helps near alpine exhibits. The texture on the rim is designed to look like the usual ZT2 concrete texture; I wanted to make it look official that way. I'm unhappy with the design on top because I was going for something a bit more complex and different. So the texture is just WIP for now and I might change the model a little.

Wow that looks really good! Can't wait to see it finished :)

ShenTirag - January 29, 2008 11:21 AM (GMT)
Neat idea! :)

orcalover22 - January 29, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
Wow, that looks awesome!!

zoo_tycoon2 - January 29, 2008 07:25 PM (GMT)
looks great, but may be better if you make it so the tops are covered in snow, while the bottom portion is rock and grass

badisbadis101 - January 29, 2008 09:23 PM (GMT)
holy cow! That is the most inventive thing i have seen yet. I love it! This is going to be a tough contest :D I better go add some cooler stuff to mine, lol

Nocturnal Dragon - January 29, 2008 10:40 PM (GMT)
wow i didn't think you would something like that great idea!

Animalover44 - January 30, 2008 02:25 AM (GMT)
That is a very clever idea. :D

This is going to be a very tough contest for our judges. :P

Panda King - January 30, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
Interesting Concept.

Supercow10 - January 31, 2008 12:05 AM (GMT)
Thats sooooooo cool ( I wonder what it would look like with plants on it)

catc - January 31, 2008 02:04 AM (GMT)
That is completely original! I love it! Even though I have my competitor, I feel as if I'm also competing against every other person participating for the most original idea, so this, in my opinion, would be really tough to top!

Panda King - January 31, 2008 02:22 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm already short on ideas and then you shove this in our faces! Where did you learn to mesh?

That is what i was thinking - everyone elses i have seen seems so unoriginal, as they are all simply arches, statues, or fountains. This is so much more creative. And of course i am competing against you directly this round, so i feel especially out-done.

Anyway, it looks great Otterlord! :D

Otter Lord - January 31, 2008 02:48 AM (GMT)
I thought about a statue that had a meshed pedastool and had a bucking Ibex or Markhor on it, even an arch too. I really liked your idea of the arch with the Ibex on it; I could imagine walking into an Alpine exhibit and looking up and seeing two Ibex clashing. Its a very good idea.

Something I really feel about Zoo Tycoon is that its too general with its objects and paths and foliage. There's a whole new generation of zoo exhibits out there and Zoo Tycoon could expand a lot more. I really like going to different zoos and seeing they're different exhibits and landscapes (i get picture happy); I'm really glad I'm a designer because I can expand on those things.

Panda King - January 31, 2008 03:05 AM (GMT)
As musch as I wanna win, I think you should add mini foliage to this!

Also do a wetlands one.

penguinman - January 31, 2008 04:39 AM (GMT)
Very nice job -- as everyone has said it's so well done and original :D

Otter Lord - February 1, 2008 05:27 AM (GMT)
Thanks for all the compliments, The texture is basicly done and I'm fine tuning the coding right now. For the model, i didn't know how it was going to work so I kept it simple and added things as things progressed. I've changed the texture around and put more effort into the landscape texture. I was thinking about adding trees at first, but it didn't seem much like a Geological model with trees. I'm pretty much set already, it functions in game normally. I'm just going to keep thinking of new things to add to it until the deadline though.

So far this challenge has been rather interesting. I found that a biome challenge wasn't really unique =/ ; yet, the alpine biome is probally the most neglected in Zoo Tycoon and that makes the challenge much more challenging. :D

Honestly though, I'm afraid of losing in fear of not being able to take part of the next challenge. :>_<:

EDIT: Whoops, forgot to give you gives a pic of the new texture. :?:

That's fantastic! You're a creative genius!!

GoneWild - February 1, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
I love this idea. Just my opinion but I thought it looked better with just the concrete and not the gold stuff. I thought it fit into the alpine biome better. I am not sure how it would look but you could maybe add rocks... but it might not look as good? I really like the first one. I can't wait for anything else amazing you create.

badisbadis101 - February 1, 2008 09:37 PM (GMT)
I LOVE the new skin - its just really cool looking! I think i have been beat, because sadly i cannot think of anything better than what you have :D But i will try to put up some competition B)

brachioman - February 2, 2008 02:46 PM (GMT)
i am amazed at how cool that is.

Panda King - February 3, 2008 05:18 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm completley shot for ideas, and you've most likely got badis beat.

Otter Lord - February 3, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
Haha, I wouldn't say that yet; badisbadis hasn't posted a picture of his arch for awhile. Something may go totally wrong with mine or my computer or I could get arrested for a false crime, etc. etc. You just dont know until the end, I'd say that I'm paranoid because I want to go to the next around and have the next challenge. :shifty:

EDIT: Or the Chapter Outline I have to do takes up my whole afternoon, that could be a problem.

badisbadis101 - February 3, 2008 11:48 PM (GMT)
sadly i havent had much time to work on my arch, so that isnt likely, maybe tomorrow i will get some time :D

Anyway, i wouldnt be too worried ottorlord B) , as your creation is amazing

Whiskers - February 4, 2008 04:00 AM (GMT)
This is amazing. You Guys are really pushing into some deep coding for this contest arent you? :oh:

zooasaurus - February 4, 2008 04:28 AM (GMT)
Mostly meshing in this tournament, except for me, I can't mesh, except for removing separate entities on a model.

Panda King - February 5, 2008 02:43 AM (GMT)
Ja, same here.
