Gorillas and Chimps have now been moved to the homnid family

Eriorguez - November 26, 2007 10:40 PM (GMT)
It's been that way since 1990. In fact, the whole Pongidae family is now Hominidae. It has 2 subfamilies: Ponginae (Orangutans and extinct relatives, like Gigantopithecus; all of Asiatic origen) and Homininae (Gorillas, Chimpanzees and Humans, plus extinct genus like Australopithecus and Paranthropus; all of African origin).

In resumen, Hominid is synonim of great ape, and we should be pround of that, that there are other species that even THINK like us.

Also, paleontologists have very good eyes for reconstruction:

We reconstructed those animals based only on that data.
