Warning: Contains spoilers for those who do not have Arabian Nights Expansion.

Arabian Wolf Conservation Centre

The AWCC is a small zoo ten miles east of Sanaa, in eastern Yemen. It is dedicated to preserving the local desert wildlife and in particular, the Arabian Wolf. The centre also rescues local animals when needed.

The entrance:

The Centre is not as well-known as many five-star zoos, so it relies on donations and tourism. It is a small attraction which helps bring profit to the nearby village.

The Centre is home to a pair of Desert Monitors (female shown here):

They were donated from the London Zoo in England. They are part of an endangered species breeding program. Right now, she is pregnant and will soon lay some eggs.

There are also two Striped Hyenas, named Akida (female) and Banzai (male):

The two are a mated pair. They were originally from the wild. They started killing goats outside the village, and soon became a huge problem. Instead of being killed, they were trapped and given to the Centre. They live a comfortable life, and still get to hunt live prey such as unwary jirds and lizards.

There's also a mystery animal:

Who can guess what it is? (Whoever gets it right can request an animal of their choice, just so long as it's from either desert or scrub. I can do downloads. )

A large area of natural sparse woodland has been put aside for our key animal - the wolf. Guests can go inside the exhibit via Jeep vehicles.

Since these wolves are so rare, we only have one wolf - a young male named Elijah. He was donated from the Sanaa Wildlife Park.

We are hoping to find him a mate so he can breed. Will the future of this rare creature be secure? Find out more next time!

Thanks everyone. As for you, Cocker, just say the name of any Arabian animal and I'll add it to the zoo.
And AniSkyOkami, to take screenshots, you press Print Screen and then open up an image program (like Paint). Click on Paste, and then save. ;)

The Sand Cat is named Ash, and she came to us after a lifetime of cruelty and neglect. She was born in the wild, and her mother was killed and she was sold by the illegal pet trade.

She lives a quiet and peaceful life. It is hoped that she may one day be able to return to the wild.

There are some new arrivals at the centre. They come in the form of Fisi and Jasmine, affectionately called Fizz and Jazz.

(I would add another pic of him if Imageshack wasn't playing up.)

But the pups are not the only arrivals. Not long after we acquired Elijah, we recieved a call from the local authorities.
A wolf had been a problem for a village five miles away. She was a young female, and didn't seem to have a pack. She had killed three goats and a dog. She was captured, and instead of being destroyed, she'd been offered to us, in exchange for the compensation of the lost livestock.

Atiya (meaning 'gift' in Arabic) has settled into her new home. she was starving when she arrived, but now she's fit and healthy. However, whilst Elijah is used to people (he even lets his keeper stroke him), Atiya is a wild animal and she does not let people come near her. It'll be some time before she learns to trust us.
